Biden plans to end the national covid-19 and public health emergency on May 11

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, plans to end the national emergency of covid-19 and public health emergencies on May 11, the White House announced this Monday.

In an administration policy statement opposing two Republican measures to end emergencies, the White House said the national emergency and public health emergency that authorities declared in response to the pandemic would last until Sept. 11. of May.

“This decision would align with previous commitments by the administration to issue notice at least 60 days before the end of the (public health emergency),” the statement read.

The statement added: “To be clear, the continuation of these emergency declarations until May 11 does not place any restrictions on individual conduct with respect to covid-19. They do not impose mask orders or vaccination orders. They do not restrict school or business operations. They do not require the use of any medication or test in response to covid-19 cases.”

The White House issued the statement to respond to a couple of measures in the House of Representatives that seek to end the public health emergency and the national emergency due to covid-19. The government argues that the bills are unnecessary because it plans to end emergencies anyway.
