The FBI investigates the "suspicious death" of a woman on a Carnival cruise

The FBI is investigating the “suspicious death” of a female passenger aboard the Carnival Sunshine cruise ship, the agency announced in a press release Sunday.

The woman was found unconscious during the ship’s voyage February 27 to Nassau, Bahamas, the Federal Bureau of Investigation field office in Columbia, South Carolina, said.

Medical personnel and crew members attempted life-saving measures after learning she was unresponsive, but the woman was pronounced dead on the ship, the FBI said.

“Both the decedent and her husband were disembarked in Nassau and Bahamian authorities have already investigated the circumstances and are conducting an autopsy,” Carnival Cruise Line spokesman Matt Lupoli said in a statement to CNN.

“We are fully cooperating. This is a matter for the Bahamas and Charleston authorities and we have no further comment,” Lupoli said.
