Senator Dianne Feinstein of California hospitalized for shingles

California Senator Dianne Feinstein, 89, announced Thursday that she has been hospitalized and is receiving treatment for shingles. The legislator said that she hopes to return to the city of Washington at the end of this month.

Feinstein’s absence could influence Democratic strategy in the Senate, as the Democratic Caucus controls the Senate by a 51-49 margin, and Sen. John Fetterman has also been hospitalized since last month undergoing treatment for depression.

“I was diagnosed over the February break with a case of shingles,” Feinstein said in her statement. “I have been hospitalized and receiving treatment in San Francisco, and I hope to make a full recovery. I hope to return to the Senate at the end of this month.”

Feinstein announced earlier this year that she would not seek re-election in 2024.
