New York: Two human arms and a leg found by schoolgirl in park

Two human arms and a human leg have been found at a park in New York.

A girl walking to school discovered the “severed left arm” on Thursday morning in Southards Park Pond in the town of Babylon, Long Island.

Her father then contacted police, who, after searching the area, found a dismembered leg.

The body part was found by a cadaver dog in a pile of leaves on the western side of the park, Sky News’ US partner network, NBC, quoted police as saying.

The dog then found a right arm around 20 ft away from where the left one had been discovered.

A nearby school kept students inside while police investigated the scene, the headteacher of the Babylon Unified School District said in a letter to parents, NBC reported.

The arms appear to be from a male, police said, but declined to say whether they were from the same individual.

The severed limbs are thought to have been discarded recently and police hope to identify them using DNA and examining tattoos, according to NBC.

Police did not rule out the possibility that the incident could be gang-related.
